The Jiaodong Martial Culture Preservation Project (JMC) aims to preserve the surviving rural martial traditions of Shandong Peninsula (Jiaodong 胶东), PRC by means of direct study, field work and textual analysis. Since its founding in 2002, the JMC team has compiled an invaluable database of historical, ethnographic, and philological material from forty-eight villages. Jiaodong's surviving martial tradition is threatened by the effects of rapid urbanization and cultural extinction.
